Got my Camer rig assembled today, I was looking at a few DIY ideas online and came up with my own design. I tried to build my own gimbal design for the rig but couldn't source all of the parts I required. Instead I collected a few tools from my attic;
- Skateboard wheel
- Telescopic Pole
- Aluminum Pole
- Small Nut & Bolt
- Medium Nut & Bolt
- Large Nut & Bolt x 3
- Washers x 40
- Clamp x 2
- Small Section of Wood
- Mounting Bolt + Rotating Ball Socket from small Tripod
- Paracord
- Bird Feeder
- Mums Scarf
- PC Microphone
- Cable Ties
- Wire Tie
So after experimenting for a few hours I finally came up with a solid design for my rig and managed to make my own 'Deadcat' wind muff. I used the wooden panel to mount my camera onto while the aluminum pole is held to control the aim of the Rig. I cut down the telescopic poll and used it as a ajustable buck stuck to jam into my shoulder to help stabilize the rigs movement. I then weighted out the washers onto two clamps at either end of the rig, counterbalancing the center of gravity around the mounted camera. The Deadcat was cable tied onto the side of the rig and consisted of a old bird feeder cage with a PC microphone suspended within, warped in one of my mums scarfs finally secured with paracord.
I decided to record my audio using the Deadcat plugged into a MP3 player, as my camera lacks the option of connecting an external microphone. And since i would be running with my actors using the original audio from the camera was a no go, especially if it was a windy day.
So after tinkering around for a while I managed to create quite a sturdy rig that i was happy with. So that took care of the main part of my equipment, i also finished assembling and spray painting my two prob grenades, along with spray painting my toy MP5, adding some white paint as necessary on the firing controls.
And so i am set to begin filming as soon as i get a clear day!
Heres some Pictures of the finished equipment!
